For this tour in China, the former President was invited by the government of China, through the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA). Throughout his trip in China, former President Musharraf was accorded head of state protocol and extensive security. In-between lectures, he was invited to several banquets by various provincial governors and senior Chinese Communist Party officials. He continues to be very popular among the Chinese younger generation.

  • Says Obama’s Af-Pak policy is incomplete without resolving Kashmir dispute
  • Calls for linking Pakistan with China through fiber optic, rail, oil, gas pipelines; through Karakoram Highway
  • Floats the idea of a Iran-Pakistan-China (IPC) pipeline

His first lecture was in Beijing to CPIFA, attended by many Chinese Ambassadors, experts on South Asia, and graduate students. The former President’s lecture focused on the deep relationship between Pakistan and China, and an in-depth analysis of regional issues including Afghanistan, India, terrorism and extremism. The former President stressed the need for closer global cooperation to defeat terrorism and extremism, and a more proactive role for China.

His next lecture was in Shanghai, with the prestigious Shanghai Institute for International Studies. The President addressed Chinese experts on South Asia, Asia Pacific, and the United States. This exclusive lecture was to the top intellectuals and think tank strategists from China. The discussion following the lecture focused on Pak-China relationship, terrorism and extremism, and the potential to increase the Sino-Pak economic cooperation. In the question and answer session, the Chinese intellectuals were keen to know the former President’s view on the new American ‘AfPak’ strategy. The President broadly endorsed the strategy, as it is the continuation of the past. However, he said this new strategy remains incomplete without India, and the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. India was excluded by President Obama from this new strategy after heavy lobbying from the Indian-American community.

The former President’s final stop was at Sichuan University in Chengdu where he addressed several hundred students and faculty. His speech was an overview of the historic relationship between Pakistan and China, an overview of the Pakistan-Afghanistan region, and the impact of the global economic crisis on the developing world. After the speech there was an exciting interaction between the students and the former President. To one student’s question on deepening the Pakistan-China relationship, the former President spoke of his vision to expand the Karakorum Highway (KKH) to include rail links, oil and gas pipelines, and a new fiber optic cable link. He suggested that not only should Pakistan do the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline (IPI), but also an ‘IPC’, Iran-Pakistan-China pipeline for gas and oil.

The students were also very interested to learn from the President his insights into developing moral character and leadership skills.
Throughout his trip in China, former President Musharraf was accorded head of state protocol and extensive security. In-between lectures, he was invited to several banquets by various provincial governors and senior Chinese Communist Party officials. At each venue the former President expressed his appreciation for the warm reception, and the sense of admiration shown by all strata of Chinese, whether it was in meetings at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, or in the streets of Shanghai.
The former President has a relatively full schedule of speaking engagements for the rest of the year, most likely taking him to Europe and North America in the coming months.

Musharraf a man of great honor and every intellectual should accept his authority on foreign affairs.
I don’t understand why he is insisting of staying in Pakistan, he should come to the United states and play a constructive role on building the country’s image.
I find it hard to believe that despite of his positive role that he is playing to defend the ugly situation in the country, the blood hounds in the country are talking about hanging him.
The last time the pitiless nation hanged a great man was Bhutto, this time they will do again.

Mr. Musharraf please don’t trust this nation and come out of it. I am as loyal as you are from outside but the people living inside the country do not have an love for their motherland.

He is the man. He simply proved the dictator of 21 Century, by giving freedom to press. Holding fair election, not fearing of his own consequences, and finally breaking all previous and upcoming records by leaving office, with resignation. Nowhere in the world, has someone done so, either they’ve gone through violence, or death flied over them.

I wish really that he contest elections ever happen in Pakistan in future.

Musharaff must come back again. He is the only real leader Pakistan had after such a long time. The hearts of true Pakistanis are with him. He is the only true leader. The man fought for his country with honor, both physically and politically. People this is the change Pakistan needed, he kept all militants in fear. He did not change his views but stood firm. Economy went up, rights went up, law and order was put upon Pakistan for it to become a secular state. How can some Pakistanis be so foolish and vote against this man because they saw him sitting with Bush? I can’t believe it. Pakistani people rise and get your voice heard, next election get Musharaff back. The one man who earned the title respectfully of being a true Pakistani leader. Politics is not a bloodline genetic job. It is a job that is based on true courage, honor, commitment to a nation, by serving the nation like this man Musharaff did. President of Pakistan Musharaff, please come back, please. Pakistan needs you more than ever. Do not bow down to the crooks, thieves, non educated people.

FACTS ON THE GROUND IN PAKISTAN.Reference to the Islamic history and Pakistan?s independance period, I want to go a step further and will recomend to select/elect every Chief of Army staff as president after retirement and the present Army chief should be be given extra time for his oustanding services at national and international level and all other Corps. Commanders of the Army and COS of Airforce and Navy should be apponited Governors and Deputy Governors of the provinces and regions ( by creating regional governments in all four provinces, 2 in Punjab 1 in each province- these regions already exist based on language, culture and history , such as Saraiki, Potahari, Upper Sind-Sukkar, Dera Ismail Khan in NWFP and Gawadar- Balouch Area. And all additional bureaucrates who love to live in provincial capitals should be trasfered to these remote areas of the country. These new regions should invite and attrect the foreigner and Pakistani origin people to invest in the area to creat jobs and eliminate poverty.) This is the only way we can stop further intereption/ coup in Pakistan . After all armed forces personnel are wel diciplined and organized . And above all represent Pakistan?s divercified population. And it;s leadership do not transfer within family but earned by hardwork and talents only. Every second family in Pakistan is represented in the army one way or the other and the Pakistan Army is the only ever lasting popular party-yes it’s an important ruling party other than Bhuttos and anti-Bhuttos, Sharif brothers. With this arrangement no one is loser except few feudals and industrialists, who reprent non of the masses in Pakistan. We already have a quota system applied for superior services since 30 years and had killed thousands of innocent talented young people, why not try this arrangement for the welfare of the country which will effect none but very few so called politicians who after all deal with generals, behind the curtains. And it?s good to know that supporters of these politician are 500/600 Mafia families who live in 125 districts in Pakistan and provide so called public leadership for national, provincial and local levels. Any restriction to stop them is useless. Recent example of education condition brought their unseen educated women forward in politics. All 8000/9000 candidates in recent elections were from the same mafia group who are the biggest law breakers and around 1000 leading law breakers have been elected as new law makers who will take care of themselves but none. They all are involved in worst kind of crimes on this earth against humanity with the colaboration of junior police officials. An enquiry by a nuetral agency may prove my claim.WOULD THE EDITOR PUBLISH THIS LETTER in the larger interest of the nation.
